Barb, sounds like a wonderful trip! Then again, any trip that includes Rome would be fantastic! The Europe by Air prices make getting to Croatia a lot easier, especially once I got used to the system.

I'm so jealous! Although I'm looking forward to Ireland, and I'm sure it will be great, I had my heart set on Croatia and am very dissapointed that we had to postpone it for a year due to time constraints. I will be looking forward to your trip report! If it was even half as entertaining as your Diva report (which, as funny as it was, you had my sympathies!) it will be wonderful.

Good luck!

Oh no, I thought you were still going to Croatia. I'm sorry you won't be going, but hey, Ireland will be wonderful!

I'm totally bummed about it! My husband will be starting a new job which now limits the length of our vacation. We only have about 8 nights, and we both decided that, given the difficulties that it takes to get to Croatia, 8 nights simply isn't enough time to have a great vacation without feeling very rushed, especially when we want to include at least a few nights in Rome. So we decided to go to Ireland, which has been our "to do" list for a while now, and postpone Italy/Croatia to March or April 2007. I'll definitely be looking forward to your trip report..you'll be the expert giving out the pointers and advice!

You can also get from Rovinj to Venice by bus to Trieste (several times a day -about 3 hours and a beautiful ride) and then train to Venice (2 hours and leaving hourly, I believe). This website will give you lots of details: www.visit-croatia.co.uk

Thank you so much for the transportaion tip about traveling from Rovinj to Venice. It's good to have a back up plan. Our first choice is by ferry!

We stayed at the Hotel Rovinj in the old town, but this is a website that looked very helpful.
http://www.rovinj.info/eng/private/index.asp
This has dozens of listings for private accomodation, but the interesting thing is that you can click on "search on the city map" and choose by location. We'd love to go back to Rovinj and would probably try to get an apt in the old town through this site.
