Crete Pictures

For any of you planning trips to Crete, and perhaps getting off the beaten path (sometimes literally), here are some pictures of our recent trip to Crete (mid-May to mid-June). For those looking for locations on a map we stayed at the following locations: Chania, Sougia, Loutro, Anapolis, Frangocastello, Kato Rodakino, Plakias, Spili, Agia Galini, Lendas and Matala.

Hi JQ
The pics are fabulous. I'm heading to Chania and Sougia next month and hope to do some of the E4 from Sougia and maybe a gorge or two. So its great to see some of what I can look forward to. I think the E4 east of Sougia is pretty difficult. You obviously covered a lot of ground, - I wont get to see a fraction of what you did. Maybe another time!!
Thanks.

Thanks HappyTrvlr.

molly007, the E4 from Sougia to Agia Roumeli is the toughest coastal hike on Crete. We only did half, from the Tripiti Gorge back to Sougia.

I love Sougia. It is my kind of place. Nothing to do but wander off into the mountains and hills.

Of all the gorges in the immediate area my two favourites are Ilingas (seriously off the beaten path and only for the hardcore) and Aradhena. Both the Agia Irini and Imbros are easily accessible by car and bus. The Samaria is beautiful, but other than that I have nothing pleasant to say about the experience. If you are going to climb a big mountain I highly recommend Gingilos (up from the entrance to Samaria instead of down).
