Crete or Mykonos?
Greetings! I will be traveling to the Greek Islands for my honeymoon and have become stuck with my itinerary. We will be arriving on June 4th and I'm having a difficult time deciding on what Island to start the trip on. I'm debating between Crete or Mykonos. Or, can we do both?..Below are the days we have open. We are looking for beach living but also love to walk around and maybe do some sporting activity or just enjoy the towns. Any thoughts on which one you would suggest?
June 4th: arrive in Athens and depart for undecided Island?

June 9th-12th: 4 nights on Santorini in the Anastasias Apartments
June 13th: one night in Athens

Crete crete crete crete crete ... June is perfect there. Warm, lushly green, flowers everywhere -- fly into Chania, a magical beautiful city, and rent a car to drive south for a couple of days. Don't waste your honeymoon hiking down the Samaria Gorge; if you must do a Gorge, try imbros.
Do you like sea kayaking? They do it in South of Crete, around Matala. See "About (GReece) Website, and there's a whole article about it, or just google kayaking Crete. Another fun thing -- a hike from Loutro to Hora Sfakion along a cliff-top mulepath..dizzying but fun.
(NOTE car rentals are cheap in June, if you can drive stick. If you only do automatic, better reserve in advance, because these are limited. If you want to take the hi-speed ferry to Santorini it leaves from Heraklion, but you can get a rental to pick up in Chania and drop off at the dock in Heraklion.
A wonderful way to start a honeymoon -- Crete, under the moon.
