credit card for hotel deposit? Safe?

Is it safe to e-mail the credit card number to the Hotel Riva in Venice, Italy?

Fax yes, email yes.

Assuming, of course, that you have $0 liability on your credit card for fraudulent transactions.

Hi B,

An email is no less safe than a fax.

If you are concerned, send the full info in 2 emails.

2 emails, with half the number in each. The chances of them both being intercepted is small.

Not wanting to sound naive, but it can be intercepted? I do however understand the logic in sending information in 2 emails.

heck, your cc number can be "intercepted" by a sleazy waiter in your favorite restaurant in your hometown, or by a customer service rep on QVC for that matter..

e-mailing is safe, faxing is safe, telephoning is safe - or I should say they are as safe as anything else. You are protected for fraudulent use so what is the fear?

I send them in three sections, and many hotel owners are familiar with this practice.

Thank you all for your replies. I will send via email in 3 sections. CC numbers in two, expired date and name in third. I have always used online payment method in most things but just a bit concerned with foreign countries, especially in Italy. Thanks again.

Hi JLL82,

>Not wanting to sound naive, but it can be intercepted?

Of course.

That doesn't mean that there is a likelihood that it will.
