Hello Everyone. I have a flat iron I bought in the UK (220v) for use when I am there. I am traveling to Prague and Budapest can I use the UK flat iron with just a plug adapter only, while I am in Europe.

(BTW -- of you call it a 'flat iron' in the UK/Europe they may think you are asking about an 'iron' as in steam iron. It is a hair straightener)

If you use the term "flat iron" in the UK, it's likely that people will think that your referring to the old fashioned iron you put on the open fire to heat up! It's not a term we use nowadays.

A steam iron is just that, a steam iron and a small travel iron (non steam) is, wait for it, a travel iron. A non steam version is just an electric iron.

Your iron will work everywhere in Europe including the UK with the appropriate adapter.

I used the term 'steam iron' really only to explain it is used to iron clothing and because few American would have ever heard of a 'real' flat iron. We've had threads before where one or another UK Fodorite wondered why on earth someone was taking a flat iron on their trip.

In any case what the OP is talking about isn't called a 'flat iron' in most of the world.

I can tell you that nobody in Europe will know what a flat iron is.
By Europe I mean the ones who didn't exit it.

In any case, nobody in any part of Europe, or future Europe, needs to know what it is because she is bringing her own, not buying one.

Thank you Everyone! As always I receive great answers. You are right! I do know that flat iron is not the correct term to use. Sorry for the confusion. I was typing faster than I was thinking. I should explain myself. I was asking about a hair straightener I bought at a Boots store in Edinburgh. I use the hair straightener only in the U.K. as I travel there 3-4 times per year. My daughter is borrowing the hair straightener to use in Prague and Budapest using an adapter, so if it works it works, if not no big deal. I truly appreciate the advice from all of you.
