Court Case over Visa Fee Refunds

What seems like years ago, I recall filling out a form concerning a class action suit wherein Visa was sued for overcharging on credit card transaction fees.

Ever since I sent my form to the legal office indicated I have heard nothing, not one word.

Do any of you recall the suit?
Have any of you heard anything more about it?

Bob, there was a thread on this a day or two ago (CCF settlement). Someone said they had received a check for $21. My husband and I also filed months ago, but have not received any checks -- yet.

"there was a thread on this a day or two ago "

bettyk: I'm not entirely sure that poster received his settlement check. There was a similar false alarm 2 or 3 months ago - come to find out, that person had received a refund of something entirely different.

Not saying the more recent thread was incorrect - but it does seem a little early to be getting the checks. The final pay out calculation was just recently figured and I'd think it would take a month or two after that before we could expect to see the $$.

Back in May I figured payments would start by Sept/Oct time - so it is getting close. But I can't imagine w/ all the hundreds of fodorites who filed, that only one would have received anything yet . . . .

Here's the page that states the settlement is still pending.

janis, j_999_9 did say she got her CCF refund check. Maybe she was mistaken, but that's what she said.

I figured that it was still hanging.
The only one of those kinds of suits that I know of that had a successful outcome involved the Teacher Retirement System of Georgia.

The court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs. The settlement amounts were non trivial on my scale of values.

The lawyers, as you could easily predict, were the ones who received the tidiest sums.

Some time ago, we had received something where you had an option to 1) settle for a specific (and minimal) amount ...which I would guess the $21 check was maybe, or

2) complete some kind of questionnaire and opt to pursue it further.

My husband said he chose #2 and hasn't heard anything further yet.

bettyk: My point was, this isn't the first time someone has posted that they received their check - but was mistaken.

Back in May someone posted a thread in the Lounge that she had her check - and then there was a "duh !" post where after we all told her it was impossible - come to find out it was something else altogether.

When I saw j_999_9's thread - I decided not to post to it until someone else reported getting a check.

As I mentioned - there are MANY fodorites who filed - why would only one receive the payment??

janis, I agree. After that false alarm in May, I just assumed that somebody wouldn't make the same mistake -- again. Maybe I shouldn't make such assumptions.

Anyway, if they are sending out checks, somebody else should surely receive one soon and hopefully will post here about it.

The amount you could settle for w/o any documentation was $25, not $21. I'm guessing the $21 was for something else and the poster forgot what it was for.
