Dang! Just got home last Monday night...in the lethargic world that usally follows overseas travel, this time a lovely three week trip into Cote d'azur, Provence and Alsace (barge-ing), we started to think seriously about the next one WHILE on the flight home!!! Looks like we'll decide on Japan and China either in fall '06 or spring '07. Having been to China in '84, it will be my first trip back to Japan since 1948 when I finished two years infantry duty with the occupying US Army. Nostalgia won't quite be the word! Will spend some time on the Asian board soon.

First trip to Netherlands, leaving in 3 months. Staying in Amsterdam for 5 days and then in Delft for another 5. Hope to take in the museums, go to some of the quaint towns, particularly the ones where our parents grew up. We plan to spend a day or two with relatives, whom we have never met. This forum has been most helpful in planning our trip! To say that I am excited is an understatement!!

A week from Friday we leave for Giverny, Brittany, Normandy, Loire Valley and Paris for 14 days. Can't wait.
|
I'm back! And Germany was nice, but the trip got all fouled up because my fiance' worked!
We joke about he owes me a trip to Europe now. He made money on that trip. So? Maybe back to Germany, I really enjoyed the 2 hour peek I had at Nurenberg...so much so I've suggested we find an apartment (so I can cook something other than pork products...) and go in time for the Christmas Markets. |
SuzieC, cool!
ehughes - if you need any MORE info re: those areas, let me know, I visited Brittany 2 yrs ago and Normandy as well (Normandy for the third time). one tip - if you are going to Paris first, there is a great Brittany visitor's center there. I wrote it in my trip report but I don't remember exactly where it was - I could find it but couldn't give directions. Maybe Boule Miche? |
I just looked up my old report:
For those traveling on to Brittany. There is La Maison de Bretagne at 203 Boulevard St. Germain. This is a good place to check out tourist info if you are heading to Brittany from Paris as they seem to cover all aspects of a holiday in Brittany. |
So, who's next?

5 more sleeps, and then we are off. Haven't started packing yet, still buying things for our friends we will be visiting in Europe. All hotels, trains etc are booked, but have yet to book 2 rental cars!!! It's our first time to Europe and we will be away for 5 weeks. We are visiting Austria, lower Germany, Prague, some of Italy, Paris and a short visit to the UK (where we have been before. Starting to get really excited. Also have yet to get my cell phone on to 'roaming', change some money into Euros, and get our 2 new credit cards seen to, as they don't appear to work for some reason, oh yes, and still have 4 more days of work as well!!!! Aarrrggghhhhhh help.

266 more days!! Started counting at 375 days. September '07 - six days in Provence, six days in Dordogne, five days in Loire Valley and week in Paris.
Sooooooo excited! eholden |
Our next trip may not belong on this board - but as we're European, I check in here a lot - South Africa. We spent 3 weeks last winter in a small town just outside Cape Town, and had a wonderful time. No safaris, nothing very exciting, just fabulous scenery, great weather, great food and wine. Those picnics under the camphor trees, being served yummy goodies, are worth the trip!
This January we go for 6 weeks - the first time we've ever had such a long vacation, but we came home mid-February last year to cool rainy weather and wondered why. Not since we first came to France, and immediately decided to live here - which we now do - have we been so reluctant to come home. We love the Perigord and wouldn't think of living anywhere else, but the Cape is also pretty special. |
We leave for our Munich-Salzburg-Paris-Munich vacation in 154 days and 9 hours.
May21 to June5 2007. It will be our first time in Europe and my wife is checking off the days on a calender. |
Mr_Dreamer,
Thanks for the math help. We'll be headed out in 153 days and some hours for 14 days in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. I just had to make a major revision (lost 5 days) to the original plan but we'll still be there so it matters not! Plenty of time to plan, plan, plan! I love this stuff! MvK |
Where are you going to in Germany and Austria?
|
Four more days until London. Can't wait to have mince pies. Woohoo!
|
Mr_Dreamer,
Rhein/Mosel for a few days, Switzerland for a few more days, then visit Salzburg but based in Berchtesgaden for 4 days, Nürnberg for a day or two, then back to the grind in the USA. MvK |
East Anglia for a week in April; France and the Baltic for two weeks+ in July; Japan for two weeks in October.
I just wish I could fit a couple more weeks in somewhere! |
Mr_dreamer,
I also thank you for doing the math. We leave 22 May for Switzerland, returning 6 June. Leaving IAD 18:03 nonstop to ZRH. |
