Could this be the right phone number in Germany

I'm confused about the phone number for my hotel in Rothenburg. The number shown on their email and their website is: (49) 09861- 95899-0 - Fax 95899-22. I'm not sure if the ending 0 (zero) and 22 (for fax) needs to be dialed. Or does it? It seems those ending digits are in addition to other German phone numbers I have seen.

So, my question is: how do I dial this number from a U.S. landline?

Thanks!

This hotel has got an in-house phone network. Each of the phones in the house has an individual number that starts with 95899 but has a different ending. Without that last digit(s) you won't get through.
Ignore the hyphens and it will look like a normal phone number - dial as logos said.

0 is the central phone at the reception.
22 is their fax.

21 may be the boss, 23 the citchen, 24 the wine cellar, 25 the laundry, 26 the bar... (just guessing here).
The phones in the rooms will have numbers like 95899-131 for room No. 131.
From INSIDE the hotel, you'll get the (fictional) wine cellar phone by just dialling 24 and room 131 by just dialling 131. From an OUTSIDE phone, the whole long number + the ending digits is needed.

Hi DH,

As logos points out, don't dial the first zero.

The Fax number should also be preceded by 011499861
