If you'd like to stay in a small village and don't mind driving to dinner, I can recommend Clapton Manor in Clapton-on-the-Hill, quite close to Bourton-on-the-Water. I stayed there one night on a long walk across the Gloucestershire countryside and wished it could have been much longer. Good information for places and restaurants on the website. Clapton Manor a luxury bed and breakfast in the Heart of The Cotswolds

As an aside, and not to hijack the thread... we have been watching "Father Brown" on Netflix. It really is a travelogue for the Cotswolds...

I enjoy Father Brown too. It is apparently not filmed in one town but in several places in and around the Cotswolds.
