Julie, You've gotten a lot of great information. I think you should be convinced by now the south of France has lots to offer that you would like. Since it will be off-season, prices should be very good (but am not sure if certain sights will be closed).The hard part is predicting the weather issue. I was in Nice about 3 years ago in Feb & had unseasonably warm weather-afternoons in mid 60's to 70. But given the unusually cold/wet winter everyone is having right now (I'm assuming you're talking about going this Jan/Feb?)who knows. My recollection was there were not a lot of flowers in bloom but things were green (palm trees!)<BR><BR>The mountains DO almost tumble into the sea-one of the things that makes this area so fantastique. The coastline has gotten built up but the hill towns somewhat less so. Assuming you are actually planning this for this month/next, which tells me you're not into heavy duty planning, my recommendation would be plan 5 days in Paris then 5 days in the south. If the weather reports for the south sound dismal once you arrive, cancel & stay in Paris & save the south for a different trip.
