Costa del Sol in October

My husband and I are flying into Malaga on October 7th and leaving on October 16th.

I know that we want to spend a couple of days on the beach, and we want to take a side trip to Morocco. I have visited Sevilla and Grenada, but my husband has not. How long is the drive from Malaga to each of those towns?

Any advice on towns not to miss? Advice of getting to Morocco/what to do there?

Thanks in advance! Jordan

I would say it is about one and a half hours from Malaga to Granada. From the Malaga Renfe station you can catch a train to Seville and avoid driving. It is about two and half hours. I am not sure where you will be staying and how much extra time you will have but Ronda is lovely. Mijas and Benalmadena Pueblo are pretty towns within easy distance of Malaga. Nerja is not far. Antequera is worth a trip.

Sorry, meant to tell you that there are many small travel agencies in the area that can arrange a day excursion to Tangiers. Your hotel can probably set up a tour for you. These are guided one day tours that will show you around Tangiers, give you lunch and take you "shopping."

Don't trust too much you will have weather good enough for the beach. It doesn't rain very much in Spain right now (at least, as much as we need it !) but if it happens..it's usually in September-October.

Precosely - October may be too cold for swimming - although you can enjoy walking on the beach - and golf or tennis.

We used to go to the Costa del Sol first half October in the years 2000-2003. We usually had a few hours of rain during that period but mostly it was sunny and warm enough for the beach.

Have you been to Cordoba? Another art city which is high on my list to return to (more than Sevilla to be honest).

Have you driven (part of) the Ruta del Pueblos Blancos? It's one of the most scenic routes in Andalucía. It will take you to a series of picturesque white villanges (including Ronda and Arcos de la Frontera, the latter also being a favorite of mine). Of course you can also drive part of the Ruta only. Check out http://www.andalusia-web.com/route_1.htm (in English!).

Malaga - Sevilla: 224 km of which 215 km on motorways. This means 2 hrs 20 min., not bad at all.
Malaga - Granada: 131 km of which 116 km on motorways. 1 hr 30 min. drive.
On the Michelin website (www.viamichelin.com) you also find directions to car parks, etc. Anyway, we never had trouble to find a safe parking place for our car.

Morocco: I guess the boats will bring you to Ceuta. I'm afraid this has nothing to do with Morocco. It's a Spanish enclave on the African continent. Unless of course you would go by car or find a tour that brings you to Tétouan, Fes or Tanger. They're all doable in a day and these are real Moroccan cities with medina's, narrow streets, mosques, etc.
