Costa Brava - Baix Empordà loop / Girona

I previously posted about my proposed itinerary in the Costa Brava, but this is a question about one specific day and area. Feel free to go back and look at my other post, too.
Context: Friend and I will have about 4 full days in CB. On one of the days we're looking at doing the following:
Bike tour of the Baix Empordà loop in the morning, which will take about 3-5 hours
Possibly a visit to the Dali Castell de Pubol
Spend the rest of the day in Girona, most likely just for dinner/evening

In a perfect world we'd have time to spread all of this out over multiple days, but we only have one day for these three activities. Is the Dali Castell worth visiting, even if we've already been to the Theatre museum and House museum? Is this something we can skip? For those who have spent some good time in the Baix Empordà loop area and Girona, would you choose one area over the other? And do you have any particular must-do recommendations in these areas?

Our priorities are seeing beautiful architecture, taking lots of photos, being in nature, and some nice meals/treats along the way.

Hi @magsrose

I can't seem to find where you asked me for some recommendations in Girona, sorry. I reply here instead.

I don't normally recommend restaurants in my neck of the woods here in Catalonia for two good reasons: EXPECTATIONS, each one of us has different expectations regarding food, some people eat to live, others live to eat, and some are bolder than others when trying new dishes, and, at the end of the day, the budget allocated to food is also an important factor.

And then, RELIABILITY, eating out is quite usual on these shores, hence the reason there are so many restaurants. As in any industry, some are good, many mediocre and a few are bad. But even among those I would consider good, sometimes 'coherence over time' is not necessarily ensured. I might have found it good last time I went there, but now they have changed the cook or the provider, or simply they're not as good managed as they were and quality and the end result suffer. That many restaurants create a very tough market regarding competition and it's challenging to keep up. Thus, recommending a restaurant to someone else tends to always be a gamble -except maybe for the very expensive ones- which I don't feel comfortable entering into.

Having said that,
.
  • El Cul del Món, Divinum or Ham Session for sophisticated modern Catalan cuisine with a touch of eccentricity but at reasonable prices.
  • Can Roca, König, Draps or La Fàbrica for down-to-Earth typical Catalan day-to-day traditional cuisine, be in tapas form or in traditional dishes, and very affordable prices.
  • Special: If you're a real foodie and want to splurge, El Celler de Can Roca is the mecca you don't want to miss. It's one of the Top10 restaurants in the World according to the Michelin Guide and has constantly been for the past decade. You can't just walk in though, you need to reserve months in advance. Check http://www.cntraveler(dot)com/restau...er-de-can-roca As guidance, prepare to pay an average of 200€ p.p. Yes, it's certainly extravagant splurging but it's worth doing it.

Enjoy!

PS: In the link above change (dot) for a dot and navigate to the site. Since I am quite new here at Fodor's, it seems I can't still post URLs until I've posted some more

I would skip the castle and spend more time in Girona. One evening/dinner is not enough!

Thanks for the tip rialtogrl. I'm leaning towards doing that. We'll have to decide how we want to split up our time that day. One solace I have is Girona is close to Barcelona and the south of France and I could definitely make it back there on a return trip.
