scrb11 - the UK is going to (or says it is anyway) impose a quarantine starting next week on ALL arriving passengers. If you fly to London and enter the UK (i.e. are not connecting directly to Switzerland) you will have to be quarantined for two weeks. Switzerland might not want to have tourists arriving from either the US or the UK either so please check before you fly.
Personally I think the UK Home Secretary will have to back down on this quarantine idea which IMO is unjustified especially given the fact that the UK has the highest infection/death rate in Europe. But for the moment she is holding firm.
I read in the Tages Anzeiger this morning that Switzerland expects to have all Schengen borders open by mid July. UK is not a member state...

NeckarVD - thanks especially for the numbers from the neighbouring countries. I think the Swiss government is very wise not to open the Italian border yet and in fact I now worry about opening the borders with France and Germany on 15th June...

.... so do I.
There would be no problem with Ain, Savoie, Aosta Valley, Valtellina, Trentino-Alto Adige, etc.
But most Swiss 1-3 day trippers go to Paris, Strasbourg, Colmar, Milan or to places very popular wih day trippers from Milan, like Stresa or Lake Como.

The governments did not determine on Friday which nationals from non-Schengen and non-EU countries would be allowed in first. But they were clear that external travellers would be able to travel once again throughout the Schengen area and not face internal border controls.

Cantons with more than 1 daily case during the last 5 days:
Aargau, Solothurn, Zurich, Vaud, Fribourg, Neuchatel, Bern.
Cantons with no or only 1 single positive case within the last 5 days:
Valais, Ticino, Jura, Lucerne, Obwalden, Nidwalden, Uri, Schwyz, Schaffhausen, Thurgau, St. Gallen, Appenzell
BTW: the 20 cases recorded by the BAG this morning where detected yesterday Friday. Until now, only 14 of them were statisically attributed to a Canton, namely 6 to Zurich, 4 to Basel and 2 each to Bern and Fribourg.

Are they increasing testing? Could these "new cases" be those being discovered through increased testing?
What are the criteria for testing, ike any requirements of symptoms, age, preexisting conditions?

As far as I know - at last here in the Valais - you are not tested unless you have symptoms. since many many cases of the virus are asymptomatic that must surely mean there is a lot more around than one knows... Still as of yesterday the Tages Anzeiger notes that there were only 2 new infections in Switzerland. On 4 June 5243 tests were done across the country and 30 of those were positive.
The Tages Anzeiger has all the figures from Johns Hopkins not only for Switzerland but for the rest of the world too. The graphs are fascinating...I suppose as long as you personally are not part of the numbers on the graphs!

I summarized a WaPo article about how Europe seems to be faring after many countries started opening up in early and mid May:
Which countries will be open for tourism this summer?

Unfortunately this is not the case today. There has been an outbreak of the virus right here in Martigny - at the hospital of all places. 60 people have been quarantined as a result. Apparently a few of the nursing aides are infected. Not good news and certainly not what we were hoping for!

Things in Switzerland are definitely opening up. On 6 June swimming pools, mountain trains and lifts etc re-opened. (Weather is terrible right now so I don't suppose too many people are using them!). Also groups of up to 300 people are allowed. Which means for us our golf club has started competitions - and apéros etc. Still with social distancing though. (That is important anyway if you are playing golf!!). The doctor in charge of infectious diseases here in the Valais was quoted in the local press this morning as saying that the small outbreak here in Martigny is "like a booster shot" in that it reminds us that we have to take the precautions including social distancing, masks when using crowded public transport etc. (I have a mask in my handbag. Since this crisis started I have worn one 4 times...twice at the hairdresser, once at the pédicure and once at my dressmaker). If I were in a train that was crowded I would certainly put one on.

This is the latest from Swiss government:
Since 6 June, further measures have been eased. Many of the previously restricted leisure, entertainment and sports activities are now once again permitted as long as attendance lists are taken, and precautionary measures and rules on hygiene and social distancing are observed.
The Federal Council still categorises the situation in Switzerland as extraordinary under the terms of the Epidemics Act. It issued a series of measures aimed at protecting the population, which are now gradually being eased. You can find further information on the current situation, and guidance for people at especially high risk, the workplace, and health professionals details under Measures, ordinance and explanations.
Continue to follow the rules on hygiene and social distancing. The new coronavirus must not be allowed to spread again.

I am afraid that things have deteriorated this week. Sharp rise in infections and the R0 went from.84 to over 1. That is not good. There will be an announcement from the Federal Council next Wednesday regarding perhaps raising the number of people allowed to gather - now it is 300. I hope they do not raise this, in fact I hope it is lowered back to 50.
