Libretto2--How kind of you to "come in from the Cold" to comment on this report. And it's always exciting to find another member of the "no car" club. You are right--with all our shared characteristics, we must be distant cousins!
The St Erth area is gorgeous and I'm keeping fingers crossed you get to visit after ten years of research.
Happy planning!

Next year I am hoping to finally get to St Erth, where my ancestors come from. We will be in England in late May/ early June after another river cruise and I hope to celebrate my 70 th year in my ancestral country. Although I am a seven generation Aussie the pull is strong to see St Erth as I have been researching family history for over ten years.>>
Do let me know if I can help at all, Libretto.
And the same to anyone else who wonders onto this most useful thread and is contemplating a trip to Cornwall. I have received so much help from people here about visiting other places that it's a pleasure to be able to return the favour.

I am topping this report to bookmark all the info you have provided. I have been doing genealogy research for 20 years and really want to visit Cornwall. I love the idea of not driving in the area. I have driven all over Europe but always on the right side and have trouble remembering to "Look Left" when crossing streets in London. Thanks for the detailed inspiration!

Update
I am always amazed that this very old thread of mine continues to get a surprising number of views. But I am also surprised that a related, later thread I wrote the following year, one that holds key additional information, gets relatively few views. It just surfaced that some original followers never knew we had gone back.
So to update this report a tad...
We loved Cornwall so much that we returned to Cornwall in 2019, but this time we tracked down MY ancestors in Devon first. On that trip, our first pit-stop was in Exeter, Devon as opposed to Plymouth, so I could explore the Honiton area. We subsequently moved on to our beloved Falmouth, Cornwall, then headed up towards Charlestown, Cornwall and then zipped out of Newquay on a now defunct airline, Flybe, to Belfast, NI.
At the time of writing, to make it easier for the forum, I split my trip report into two sections. I shall re-link those in two parts but with slightly different titles to clarify the topics:The Falmouth entries in the Devon/Cornwall report, starting around Post #29, even though they are now 7 years old, may be especially helpful to those wanting to know more about The Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth and the Sea Shanty Festival. We later got to visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey (locals call it "Meva") with our stay in Charlestown.
As an additional aside, we were intent on returning to Falmouth in 2020, but COVID destroyed all plans. We made plans to return in 2026, but since I must now work on a bucket list before knee and hip replacements, I made the executive decision to visit Basque Country because I want to see the Bilbao Guggenheim (although that may indeed be in a wheelchair!) before I go under the knife. I’m hoping after I get a new left side, we can return to Falmouth.
Happy Planning (and Health!) to All

Thanks for the update and links, and also for your input on my Falmouth question. I was going to book the Greenbank, but discovered at the last minute that Booking was no longer including taxes and fees in its initial price. Since that upped the cost by well over 100 GBP for four days, I am now booked in Gyllyngvase House in a tiny single...
