Copenhagen to Stockholm R/T - Fly or Train?

We will be visiting our son doing study abroad in Copenhagen in April and will do a side trip to Stockholm. Trying to decide about whether to fly or take the train. I have heard that the airport in Stockholm is far from the city center. Considering time for travel to and from both airports and security, would train be just as quick? What would you do? We will be leaving on Sunday and returning on Wednesday.
Also - are train/plane tickets something we can do at the last minute while we are there or will we need to book further in advance?
And any tips or advice for either city is welcome!
Thank you !

We took the train and it was efficient. Yes, airport is a distance outside of Stockholm. Considering how much time you need to get to airport in CPH, then check in, then fly, then get to Stockholm center, train will be not much different in time.

The earlier you buy train tickets, the cheaper they are so I would buy now, you are already a bit late.

Call your credit card company before you buy tickets to tell them you are making an online purchase from sweden.

we bought our tickets here:

Haven't flown between the cities but once took a night train from Stockholm to Copenhagen. It was a short trip for a night train and we used our scan rail pass but I bet it's more convenient than flying.

Thanks @DebitNM! Taking your advice, I just went online to buy my tickets (you're right - a lot of the seats were already taken). But when I got to the payment portion, it would not accept my credit card. I did contact my card company before sending and they gave me the go-ahead. Did you have any issues buying tickets online?

I cannot remember exactly how I paid, this was 6 years ago.

A search finds this:

Try a different card??

Try www.bokatag.se or www.snalltaget.se/en instead. Same prices, small fee.

Do NOT use eurorail if you can possibly help it, $$$
