We are ending a cruise in Copenhagen and my husband wants to see Moscow---can he safely fly to Moscow, and would he be safe there or does he need a tour (for 2 days)

Why would he not be safe? He'll need a visa, but other than that should be no worries. Warning: Moscow is EXPENSIVE.

Agree, why on earth would it not be safe? And wouldn't you go with him? But the visa is both expensive, and a pain to get. I don't know that I would bother for just two days.

Hi Wordsmith...no problems. I've been in Moscow twice during SSR days and twice more recently as 2008. Let him go...but as Thursdays warned above a visa for a two day visit is a bank breaker and full of "red" tape if you'll pardon the pun! Have a nice cruise.

I've been a gazillion times to Moscow and cannot see why anyone would think it unsafe. It is also not that expensive for tourists at the moment; the visa is, but once there is it not that expensive unless you enjoy overpaying or you want a suite at the Ritz Carlton. Two days is not enough and forking out for the visa, you should consider a couple more days.

What sort of visa will you have? You need a tourist visa, if you have one of those you can visit Moscow.

Not necessarily. There are special arrangements for cruise ships. If you only take the ship's tours you would probably not need a visa. If you plan to take off on your own in St. Petersburg you would need to get your own visa. Your cruise line should have provided you with the relevant info.

Where does the cruise start? If it's Helsinki wouldn't it make more sense to visit Moscow first?
