Copenhagen Restaurants

We'll be in Copenhagen this coming Memorial Day weekend. We have tried to book restaurant "Noma", but was told that weekend tables are booked up to October. Could any foodies recommend any other excellent restaurants there?

Thanks for your help.

Try out www.aok.dk, they have a nice overview of restaurants in Cph. It all depends on what "genre" u're interested in. I reckon u're keen on places like: Kong Hans Kælder, Ensemble , Gastronomique or why not The Paul in the heart of Tivoli? Anyway Bon Appetit. (Or as we say in danish, velbekommen).

Stjerne,

Website looks great. Thanks!

I was thinking about Ensemble, too....so will give it a try. The hotel we are staying recommended Premisse. Have you tried this restaurant before?

I got the impression that The Paul may be a bit touristy place......I wonder if it is like Tavern on the Green in the Central Park??

We just returned from a trip to Scandinavia and dined at both Noma and The Paul.

We actually enjoyed the meal at The Paul better than Noma. I guess we may be more traditional than others, but sometimes we have felt that restaurants like Noma; La Terraza del Casino, Madrid; Arola, Barcelona; etc. seem to be trying a little too hard to be cutting edge for our tastes, or we just cannot appreciate the subtle nuances. Some foam is just foam.

KipC,

If you don't mind my asking, what service did you use to book these restaurants? I usually use hotel’s concierge service or AmEx concierge. But neither of them could book these restaurants.

By the way, my husband and I spent last Christmas in Basque region. Our trip’s highlight was a dinner at Arzak in San Sebastian. While food was very tasty, what blew us away was the complex texture that the chef created for each dish. Do you have posting of your restaurants review? I would love to read that.

Mochi,

I booked Noma through the booking on their web site probably six weeks ahead of time.

I had the Hotel (SAS Royal) book The Paul and also Aberto K (which is in the hotel) for me and confirm with Noma also.

We are not opposed to complex tastes and textures, it just seems that some restaurants are trying too hard to make an unusual impression. We had a great dinner at Cinc Sentits in Barcelona which included many very impressive tastes and did not seem at all like a science experiment.

I have not had a chance to write up the restaurants yet but will hopefully get it done in the next week.

Have a great weekend in Copenhagen, we really enjoyed the area.

We will be spending this weekend in Cape May NJ on the ocean, which has a number of interesting restaurants.
