Message: If anyone would be so kind as to answer a few questions about Copenhagen... My husband and I and our four-year old daughter will be arriving there at 5:30 in the evening the first night; spending all the following day in the city; and then taking a train to Stockholm the next day in the morning or noon. Our time is short. We are definitely going to Tivoli, but need help on prioritizing the rest. 1. Is the open-top bus tour a good way to see the main sites? 2. Is the harbour cruise worth our time or would it just be repeat of what we've seen on the bus? 3. Is Roenborg Castle a must-see over and again Christiansborg Palace? We surely don't have time for both. 4. Has anyone taken the walking or palace tours by Richard Karpen? Thank you. We definitely want to get a glimpse of Nyhavn, Christiania, and the Stroget. <BR><BR> <BR>

We took the harbour cruise mostly because we needed something to do in one hour before Tivoli opened. I presume it went to same suspected places the buses would have gone, and perhaps Christiania and Little Mermaid from the harbour side instead from the land side. If we had less time, we would not have take time off from Tivoli to do this. <BR><BR>Stroget should be no problem from Tivoli. It is practically next to each other.

We (2 mature adults) spent 3 days in Copenhagen last August -- 2 pre & 1 post cruise. These are selected "high-light" suggestions which you will need to edit to accomodiate your 4-yr-old. <BR>1) Can you arrange to rent (if you are not bringing) a stroller? You will see many small children in strollers and bike baskets.<BR>We walked all of the following, using a taxi once in late evening returning to hotel which was near Nyhaven only because we were tired. Taxi is inexpensive & most take charge cards.<BR><BR>*Copenhagen This Week - good maps. Museum hrs. They may have a web site -- I've forgotten.<BR><BR>See Rick Steves – walking tour of Copenhagen.<BR><BR>Walk – Nyhaven via Kings Sq. – Stogret – Tivoli. Short detour to Round Tower. Or do the reverse depending on your hotel location. Spend time during day hours strolling the Stogret & window shopping/people watching, etc.<BR><BR>Choose 1 of these palaces:<BR>Amalienborg Museum 10-4pm 40 KR<BR>Private chambers and precious objects belonging to the royal family, from Christian IX to Christian X (1863-1947)<BR>within walking distance from Mermaid & Nyhaven. has changing of the guards.<BR><BR>**Rosenborg Palace <BR>10-4pm . 40DK The Crown Jewels, furniture, treasures of royal family through 400 years (1500-1900). built by Christian IV in 1606. <BR> Note: both have gardens near which are very pretty and nice for a "rest" break.<BR><BR>*Round Tower - Koebmagerade 52A -- short walk off the STOGRET ( which is actually a number of streets: Ostergade / Amagertorv /Vimmelskaftet / Nygade/ Frederiksberggade)12-4pm 15RK. 209 yd spiral staircase. some stairs at top. view of city. <BR><BR>Suggest after checking in @6pm, depending on hotel location, see Tivoli or Nyhaven. Nyhaven tends to be most active in the evening (cafe scene) but it is quite postcard pretty during the day. Seeing Tivoli when the lights are on is a "must".<BR><BR>We did a harbour cruise simply because... it would not be at the top of my short list. <BR><BR>We also did the ruins at Christianborg, the WWII museum and the National Museum, but I don't think they would have enough appeal to visit with your 4-yr old.<BR><BR>Enjoy the city -- it's a grand place. And have a pastry for me!

Go to Tivoli the evening you arrive and again the next day....it's worth it. The bus tour is good, & Nyhavn would probably be better with a 4 yr old in the day time.

Your daughter will LOVE Tivoli. Rosenborg palace would be a good one to see. Your daughter will love looking at the crown jewels and on the top floor (third floor?) is a real throne room with two very large silver lions.

To second most of what was said, we just returned from a trip which included Tivoli, go that evening. You don't need the harbor tour although it was pleasant, you see more on the bus tour. Judy

Any suggestions for good, inexpensive restaurants in Copenhagen?

Oh, and the National Museum in Copenhagen (just around the corner and a couple blocks down from the city square) has an interesting children's section. Admission is free on Wednesdays, and they also have free internet access in their media room.
