Copenhagen Marriott or Radisson Royal?

I know this was not your question but we stayed at the SAS Royal across the street from Tivoli Gardens and loved the hotel and location. We started out at the "charming" Palace Hotel but quickly realized that in the summer months when it does not get dark until very late everyone stays outside and parties. AC is a must as well as a high floor and closed windows unless you to are going to party until 3-4 am.

I think the SAS Royal is the same as the Radisson Royal - the full name is Radisson SAS Royal.
I think the Radisson has the more convenient location. But the Marriott is a newer hotel and has great reviews. I haven't stayed at either but observed both.

I stayed at the Marriott last year and give it high marks. Very comfortable attractive rooms (beautiful fabrics), excellent service. It is not as close to Tivoli than the Royal, but it's not far, either.
I don't think you could go wrong with either hotel.

Stayed at the Marriott last year in a room with a water view (the "water" in this case is a rather wide canal-like affair). It was hot in Copenhagen and we appreciated the up-to-standards air conditioning; room was not huge but well-decorated and the staff was very accommodating.
Tivoli is a four-to-five long block walk..took us 10-15 minutes to walk it max.
Enjoy your stay in Copenhagen.

The SAS Royal is half a block from the train station and kitty corner to the Tivoli Gardens. It's about 2 blocks (heading past Tivoli entrance) to Stroget. Ordinarily I don't like staying near train stations, but we made a fortunate exception in this case.
On the outside, the hotel looks '60's blah, like an office building. If you are into Danish design and architecture, however, you will not regret the experience once inside. They remodeled the entire inside about 3 years ago, to recreate the original Arne Jacobsen designed hotel. When you think Danish furniture or Danish design, you think Arne Jacobsen.
The staff is beyond extraordinary -- they treat you like royalty. They do have fire laws there, so only 2 to a room, which meant for the 3 of us (with our then 11 year old son, it meant 2 rooms). Adjoining. We ended up with two rooms that took up an entire side of the hotel, I swear! The style was perfect '60's danish design, redone to perfection, with the tulip-shaped chairs and everything! Huge bed and our room overlooked the Tivoli, all lit up at night and on Weds & Sat. nights could enjoy the fireworks in the comfort of our room. The a/c worked perfectly.
There are no baths -- only showers, but again, the bathrooms were a Danish architectural dream. I mean, we kept thinking, we need to get a faucet like that or a shower head like that. It was one of the few places we stayed in that we took picture after picture of the unique little details.
The buffet breakfast was pretty good too.

I agree with Sufergirl. The Royal was just perfect. The location, the staff, the decor so perfect for being in Scandanavia. I would not want French Country furniture in a hotel in Copenhagen. The whole setting gets you in the mood. Access to everything. One evening it got cool while we were at Tivoli Gardens and I walked back across the stree to get a sweater. Now that is convenient. We had a room that had a view of the whole area. It was great. I have sent friends there since and everyone has been thrilled. Enjoy
