Copenhagen hotel - again!
We need to book in Copenhagen for the July 2 weekend, and I thought I had plenty of time.
I reviewed the Copenhagen hotel threads, but all the hotels recommended were unavailable and/or too expensive by half. I booked at the Tiffany but nobody mentioned the Tiffany on this Forum, and I would just request that if ANYONE KNOWS OF A REASON WHY WE SHOULD NOT
please let me know. The reviews at Tripadvisor were favourable. Since we are in C for just one full day and a half we want to be central. Neither of us have been there or anywhere in Denmark so we can only go by reader comments about district, accessibility etc. Appreciate any comments, favourable or otherwise. We are not expecting luxury, just comfort and cleanliness.
Thanks,
Carolee

Glad to see you had a response. I posted about hotels in Copenhagen last week and am disappointed no one has answered.
My friend and I were going to stay at the Tiffany in September but decided on the Strand mainly because of the location.
Let me know what you thought of the Tiffany if you do stay there.

Have you checked www.woco.dk ?
Would you consider Priceline (if it would fit your family requirements)?

I had a great stay at The Strand last year 7 nights at 750 danish kroner per night in the middle of June (double room for single use with buffet breakfast). I kept checking the arp-hansen website for special offers but also try hotel.dk and hoteladvice.co.uk
Good luck!

I stayed at Hotel Guldsmeden (#4/5 on trip advisor) at 795 DKK per night, which fits your budget. Booked through Woco. This will be cheaper than your current choice.
If you click on my name, look at a thread in which I asked about Scandinavian hotels.
Normally don't bother to review hotels, but I blogged about Guldsmeden here:

So sorry that I didn't post fully. Yes, this was a Priceline bid. My taxes and fees were $30.52 for each night for a grand total of $123.52/night. I recalled seeing that the Marriott was generally the 4* to expect when bidding and that between $85 and $100 was what usually clinched the deal. I like that the Marriott has only kings or 2 queens for bedding according to their website. biddingfortravel.com which is temporarily less than optimal due to a board crash is a great resource. I did split up my 2 nights when I couldn't get them accepted together. Obviously, I cannot guarantee my strategy will work for you and you do need to remember that there are no free rebids in this zone so don't lowball too much. We use about 275 Priceline nights a year so I feel super comfortable with all of the pre-bidding work that needs to be done. Just remember that Priceline is not for the faint of heart and you absolutely may get a hotel that you did not want. Good luck with your planning. Threehearts

My husband works during the week in another state and the hotel nights are $38/night so your figure is off. We don't spend that many nights in a Copenhagen hotel. My husband's work also pays for these Priceline nights. He could have chosen an apartment to be paid for but it didn't make sense with all of the attendant costs with renting. By the way, where I live you couldn't get a very nice house for a $2300 a month mortgage. Sad but true. Have a good one. Threehearts

"Where are there $230,000 houses that aren't very nice?"
Robespierre, I'm sure that there're a lot of examples if you look at NY, NJ, CT....
But anyway, to be mathematical about it (assuming that your amortization rule is correct, which I've not really checked), the price of the house is actually 5/4 x 230K = 276K (assuming a 20% down payment so 80% financing).
But yes, in this crazy market, there's such a thing at 0% down.

Anyway, it's taking us too far afield, but I used http://www.mortgage-calc.com/mortgage/simple.php .
Plug in 400K at 6% interest rate and 30 years and you get 2,400 per month.
It sounds like your amortization is too low, R (note we're now in a low rates environment, so I'm even more puzzled).
By the way, a good approximation for current low rates is to take 2 x principal / (12 x 30) for your monthly payment. Do this and you get 2,222 per month. I'm off by about 10%.
(This only works for a 30-year mortgage.)

Anyway, I shouldn't be too puzzled (an error in thinking on my part) -- but I'm curious and it's easy by trial-and-error (with the same calculator) to back out the implied interest rate used by R in the amortization rule.
It's about 11.5%. (In other words, plug in 230K principal, 11.5% interest rate and 30 years to get a monthly mortgage of 2277.67, close to 2300.)
Rates have been way below this in the past 10 years.

Sacred blue! I live in North Scottsdale, and $400k will buy 3000 sq. ft. on an acre around here.
(My RoT probably dates me - interest rates were double-digit the last time I borrowed to buy a house.)

Well, I see that our posts came in at the same time -- so yes, I reverse engineered the whole thing.
Did have to look up North Scottsdale though (AZ).
Sometimes I think that the NYC Metropolitan area follows its own rules of pricing. Wonder what 400K buys in Manhattan these days....
