Conwy as a base ?

We are planning a Spring visit to Wales, spending about 10 days in all. We'll be starting from the south and gradually going north. We'll have a rental car. We are thinking of making a base in a B & B near Conwy for perhaps 5 days. Is there lots to do to fill 5 days around Conwy, doing daytrips ? Is this a good choice ?

yes - Definitely. All of north Wales/coast/Snowdonia, the west coast, Chester are easily toured from a base in Conwy

Definitely, yes! I once spent a week in conway and could have done more.

Bodnant Gardens

BlenauFestiniog--old steam railway ride and visit the slate mines

Caernarvon

Beaumaris--13th century castle with moat and wonderful setting

Penrhyn Castle--a 19th century industrial giant's building

Llandudno--beachfront with Victorian buildings, the Great Orme with its view along the coast

snowdonia National Park

Conwy itself--medieval walls, castle, pleasant harbor, narrowest house in Britain, Plas Mawr (sp?)--the Tudor era town home of a wealthy business man There are several nice B&Bs and comfortable restaurants.

Lots more in the area.

Have a wonderful trip!

What is your plan for the south?

Conwy is a great place to be, beauty all around.

We spent a week in Conwy in May of this year. Its a perfect base for exploring North Wales. This was our first trip to North Wales but it wont be our last.

I can recommend spending a day in Conwy itself (as already mentioned).

Have a fantastic time.

Conway is indeed a lovely town. I may be biase however and say the best location for discovering North Wales would be nearer Bangor. The city itself hasn't much to offer the tourist but you are in the heart of it all.

All the best places in North Wales are all within easy reach. (around 30 - 40 minutes drive) Llanberis, Caernarfon, Betws-y-Coed, Llandudno, Conway, Beaumaris, Llanddwyn beach, Porthmadoc, the Lleyn peninsula, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Harlech.

It's a beautiful part of the world. you'll have a fabulous time here no matter where you choose as your base.

Don't forget Portmeirion. There isn't anything like it in Wales.
