Converting old currency to Euros

I tried this last summer and used the GWK exchange office at a railway station. After they'd deducted their handling charge, I got next to nothing. I wasn't too bothered as I only had 20 Guilders, but if you do have a significant amount, check what you're going to get. In most Euro-zone countries, I think you need to go to the national bank to get your money changed without being charged.

Hi Tom:

I went to France in October. Transferred in Philadelphia, and I cashed in 50 Irish Pounds for Euro at the Philadelphia airport. Exchange bureau would not accept coins. I was charged a fee (don't remember how much), but I was glad to glad to get rid of the Irish currency. Rita
