I went on a 7 day Contiki tour of Ireland about 5 years ago. I did have a great time, especially in terms of all the people you meet. Everyone on our tour was super nice and we all had a great time. However, I did find that we spent a lot of time on the bus, driving from one place to the next. As much fun as I had, I didn't feel like I got to know Ireland as well as I might have if I'd been on my own. So I have very mixed feelings about it, although I think all tours are like this. HOwever, if you are for sure going to use a tour company, then this one is the way to go because everyone is young and there to have a good time. That's my thoughts, hope it helps!

I agree with Amanda... I went on Contiki Simply Italy... we saw A LOT, and many things we probably wouldn't have done on our own, but were on the bus a lot - but I guess that is unavoidable! My friend and I had the time of our lives though! I say give it a try.

I was on a 30-day (or so) Contiki tour through Europe in 2001. (European Contrasts budget tour). I had the BEST time of my life. It was amazing. I would definitely recommend them. My sister is currently on a Contiki tour, in fact.
I am even thinking of taking an Australian Contiki tour with my now husband.
Hope this isn't too late to sway you.
