Your situation is not a simple reverse of the OP's. You're going from non-Schengen to Schengen, so you need to go through immigration once, regardless.
You can take the airside bus (which goes all the way around 2C, 2A and then 2B before 2F) and clear immigration there; or you can ignore all the connection signs and go through immigration at 2E like you'll going to Paris. Walk to 2F and reclear security there for your gates. I suggest the 2nd option.

The 2nd CDGVAL (not the one that just started operation) is, from what I understand, a 'secure zone' shuttle. This will make going between terminals much faster in transit. I think the second CDGVAL is supposed to be in operation before the end of the year.
As for U.S. flights closing 30 minutes before departure, please note that ALL transcontinental flights close 30 minutes before departure, and that's the way it has been for many many years (long before 2001-09-11). Passenger manifests have to be finalized and transmitted to the civil aviation authorities at that time.

I do not think that it is just intercontinental flights that close 30 minutes before flight time. Before 9-11 we flew Air France to Paris, transfering terminals for another flight to Bordeaux. We were prevented from boarding the flight though the plane was on the tarmac for some time. Had to wait 4-5 hours for the next flight, and the people with whom we had to deal were not particularly pleasant or helpful An annoying experience.

I believe the 2nd CDGVAL line is indeed inside security, but its purpose is to link to the newer satellite terminals being built; not to go between existing ones. At least that's how I understand it.
As for flights closing early, there are plenty of reasons. One main one is if they're using a bus gate - which adds significant time for flight to depart.
