Completely confused - 8 days in Scotland

I never (ever) use Trip Advisor to find a hotel/B&B.
My strategy is simply to google something like "Callander B&B" or "accommodations Doune Scotland" and you get a long list. When you find one that looks nice you can then go to TA and check to decide if it will work.
Now a point about TA -- for a large hotel the reviews can be helpful, but for a small B&B not so much IME. Consider -- a B&B may have 1 or 2 rooms let out, maybe a 50% or 75% occupancy rate for 8 or 9 months a year. Very few visitors in the scheme of things -- maybe 100 or 150 guests a year total and maybe only 60% or 70% of them even know TA exists and only a small % of those will post reviews.
A hotel w/ 50 rooms open year round - you are talking a sample size of 2,000 or 3,000 guests.
