Cologne Train Station - Cathedral
In early August my wife and I will be traveling by train from Paris to Regensburg. The train stops for about 1 hour in Cologne. I can see that the beautiful Cologne Cathedral is very near the station. Is a real quick visit possible? Suggestions on quick bag check at this train station or other advice would be appreciated.
thanks

Well if you can roll your luggage with you it's only a few steps to the Dom, the world's largest Gothic Cathedral i guess.
There is a novel baggage storage in Cologne - where you put your bags in a machine that whisks them underground to some storage area then you retrieve them. But when i used it i did have to wait a bit to retrieve due to lines.
I've never seen a baggage facility like this in any other train station in Europe. No typical lockers it seems in this station - though i haven't been there in three years.
And if the train stops for about an hour it means there are hourly trains - no train stops for an hour - so you can easily take a train another 30 mins or an hour later and have a good walk along Cologne's fantastic riverfront as well. Or see the acclaimed museum next to the Dom

The cathedral is literally next door to the station, and there are luggage lockers in the station, but why not catch an earlier train from Paris (or a later one to Regensburg) so that you have more time to look around Köln.

Thanks - I thought of changing the trains but we already leave Paris at 6:52 am and arrive in Regensburg at 5:18 pm. That's a long day on the train - I think we'll just go and take a quick look and perhaps explore Colonge next trip!
