Colmar, France - Tell me all you know!

We'll be touring through Colmar for an afternoon. Would like to stop for lunch and have a look around, suggestions please?

Take the "Petite Venise" walk. It will lead you by the most scenic spots in Colmar.

We stayed at the Romantik Hotel Marachel in "little Venice" It has a nice restaurant overlooking the canal but there is one almost across from it where the dining terrace is open on the canal. Sorry can't remember the name.

Does Colmar have canals?

Yes, to the canals. And there is a great little waffle and ice cream booth near the carousel in the park. Waffles and ice cream go great after sauerkraut!!

Don't miss the Unterlinden Museum - the famous "retable" of Mathias Grunewald. <BR>It's a beautiful little town. Enjoy it!

There is an "old section" of Colmar with winding streets, many shops and restaurants and a beautiful old church (on the top of which storks roost!); if you want to take time to go into a museum, visit the Unterlinden Museum to see the Issenheim Alterpiece. It's truly awesome and well worth a visit. For me, Colmar was enjoyable because it is such a blend of French and German (both languages spoken there) so many of the shops sold items from both Germany and France.

I only spent a day in Colmar but what I remember best is the Unterlinden museum and taking a little tram for a tour thru the city. We got off the tram stopping by the Petit Venise canal for a glass of wine. Then we walked back to what I'd call the main plaza near the Unterlinden.
