Tipping at a Club Med?

As unheard of as a good word about Trump from a pseudo-liberal.

Now personally, I think anyone tipping anywhere, ever, is in urgent need of psychiatric help. But at Club Meds this demeaning practice is outright forbidden. As I understand it, GO's (Club Med for "staff") found accepting tips would be dismissed instantly where that's allowed, or at least given an immediate formal warning of dismissal if repeated.

I confirm that tips are completely forbidden at Club Med.

Why do you need any additions? It's forbidden. End of discussion.

okay, I'll make an addition. The ski instructors at Val d'Isere are NOT Club Med employees nor are they at all like CLub Med GOs (who are club med staff who just sort of handle things around the resort). They work for private local ski schools and your Club Med fee has just included the price of group ski lessons in the rate. But those instructors do NOT work for Club Med.

As for tipping, I have no idea the custom in European ski resorts for tipping in group lessons. I do take group lessons at times in the US and some people tip and some do not. I tip only if the instructor is really good and special (and sometimes they are not, I tip zero, I don't tip just because someone has a certain job). I think I tip $10-20 for the day, if I do tip. In the US, I know those ski instructors at the resorts are not getting the rate I pay for the lesson, of course, and count on tips as part of their annual wages.

My general rule of thumb in such situations is just watch what other people do, that's all (presuming the instructor is really good and you might consider tipping). At that Club Med I would presume most of the people in the lesson are Europeans and know more about that kind of thing. YOu can't go too far wrong by watching what others do usually.

you know, reading the Club Med brochure, they do say "tips and gratuities are always included" and they list that along with the unlimited activities. So while those are not Club Med GOs, I don't see anything wrong with not tipping, and I bet most others do not. I wouldn' tworry about it, that's all. I don't always even tip them in the US, as I said, and I've never had a ski instructor in group lesson in the US even troll for tips or say anything if you didn't tip them.

Thank you Christine and others for your help in this matter. We decided to tip
our instructor. Having him with us this week made life wonderful.
My skiing improved I learned how to ski off piste and didn’t stress about which run it lift to tak. We experience the entire mountain with this instructor. Well worth the tip

It's certainly a slippery slope.
