Cinque Terre on the weekend?
I keep reading in travel books that finding a room around the cinque terre on the weekends will be hard. I can plan to be there in the middle of the week. Just wondering if I really need to make reservations ahead of time. We will be there around May 22. Any suggestions for inexpensive to moderately priced accomodations? Thanks.

topping, for Jenny.

Glad you asked this question here on the forum too, Jenny, as I have never been to the Cinque Terre (perhaps I have answered questions about the distance from ther to somewhere?).

In general, I strongly favor PUBLIC answers to PUBBICly asked questions. Private e-mail answers help only one person - - and if I, or other "regulars" spent more time doing that - - then how would people like you know that "we" exist?

Moreover, I think that the "cross-examination" and tangential dialogue that often follows is a good thing.

Best wishes,

Rex
Wow - - I see you've been planning (and/or lurking here), trying to get this trip nailed down for quite a while!

from your first post:

Author: Jenny ([email protected])
Date: 01/13/2002, 03:05 pm

Message: Just the question I was asking myself. My husband and I are planning our first ever trip to Europe and plan to focus on Provence. I hope someone answers this, as we plan to do the same. Jenny
We are leaving for Italy on May 25th for a family wedding outside of Ancona (in a monastery overlooking the Adriatic) but are going to spend 3 nights in the Cinque Terre. I tried booking three weeks ago and had trouble. I thought that it would still be off season and during the week but it was a problelm. We are going to the Hotel Cinque Terre in Montorosso.

Jenny, May is already the busy season. We were there last April and we were surprised at how difficult it was to get reservations in February! We did manage but we had to send a ton of e-mails and faxes. We used Rick Steve's guide for names, e-mail and fax info.

Good luck!

Jim

I appreciate the help. I'm such a novice at travel forum protocol that I don't know what "topping" means. Author "up" replied "message: up". What do I do to get that message? Thank you, Rex, for the response. I see your point about everyone getting to learn from the questions; I guess I'm just a bit reserved. This board has been very helpful in my planning and it does make me understand what the "world wide web" really means.
