Cinque Terre -A day trip?

We will be staying in Florence for 7 days in March and I would like to plan several day trips. Lucca, Siena, and Fiesole by bus or train will be definites. But can we do a day trip to Cinque Terre? And if so - go to what spot, walk, dine, walk, boat and catch train back? We have been to Florence numerous times but wanted to see some of the area. Any CT itinerary suggestions for the day? Most appreciated.

Take the boat. Go to Lerici and take the boat up the coast. Choose your disembarkation point or points, and have a lovely day.

Why not shorten Florence by two days and spend two nights in one of the CT towns? Less rushed as doing it in a day is a full day and hard to really get a feel for the area.
You can take a train from Firenze to La Spezia and from there you catch the train to the towns. Check trenitalia to see how long it takes to get there from Firenze.
cheers,
CC

My 20 year old son and I were in Cinque Terre last March. We loved it - it was the highlight of our trip to Italy/Switzerland. We spent two nights in Monterosso but only one day as we arrived very late the first night by car and left early morning after the second night. We spent our day hiking south through all the villages to Riomaggiore and then took the train back to Monterosso. It was beautiful day - clear blue skys and about 70 degrees F. I would highly recommend spending at least a day in CT. All the villages are nice - I wouldn't worry too much about which one you stay in, especially if you are only going to be there one or two nights.

We're based in Florence because daughter is there in school, lives in apt. We have a hotel room for 7 nights and are considering just leaving bags and take a day pack and spend a night in CT. But thought we could pack a bunch in a full day and come back late to Firenze. I like the idea of the boat for the day. Off and On. I'm assuming that March the weather will be good for the boat.

my daughter and I are planning a day trip to ct with one of the florence walking tour groups. It will be a big day but I felt that having 2 night in ct would cut into our week too much and we would have to carry a pack. There is an early train to Manarola and a late one back from Monterosso.

I did CT a couple years ago in a day and we walked. I was able to see a lot and had a great meal along the way.
