Cinque Terre

Can anyone please tell me if the train trip from Riomaggiore to Monterrosso involves going through a lot of tunnels and if so does this spoli the trip in terms of the scenery etc.?

Thanks

Yes you go through several tunnels when riding the train that goes between the five villages of the CT. If you want to view each town, take the ferry. The most stunning views of each town are from the sea anyway. Better yet, stop at each town and visit and really soak in the ambience of the area.

It's not a scenic ride, granted there are moments like when you come out of the tunnel and are welcomed with the most vibrant blue sea you will ever see. It's a quick trip so I agree with the above poster get out, and hike between the towns for the best views and experience.

There is essentially zero view of the towns during the 18 minute train ride from the first to last town or vice versa. All but maybe one or two minutes of it is tunnel.
