Check out Tripadvisor:
1. "The main reason for choosing this hotel was its location, close to the airport bus stop and Metro. We also found it's good for trams and other buses too.
"It's an ideal location for public transport, you can be in the old town or Wenceslas Square via the Metro within 15 minutes of leaving your room. A No 20 tram will take you direct to Mala Strana (western end of Charles Bridge), or you can walk to the castle in 15 minutes.
2. "We stayed here because we had a very early airport departure and the hotel is located just 5 minutes to the "airport bus stop" which is next to the Dejvicka ("DIV-itz-KA"
metro stop. What a great location. It was an easy 20 minute ride to the airport (#119 buses leave every 6 minutes starting at 6 am). In additon, the metro ride to "the castle side" of the city was about 5 minutes and to the "Old town" side about 7. Metro trains run every 6 minutes or so. You get to stay in a quiet residential area on the edge of the city centre but you can get to things really quickly.
"The 24-hour metro pass (now, 80Kc = $3.20) is good on all metro trains, trams, and buses including the bus to and from the airport! Buy it at the airport at the "DP" (transportation) counter, don't forget to validate it (date/time stamp it in one of the yellow boxes on the buses or trams or at the entrance to the metro stations) and you're set!)."

How about seeing the Nutcracker at the National Theatre? Perhaps an opera at the Estates Theatre or the State Opera House. All are magnificent venues. Or do all of the above.
Tickets are available on-line and will never be cheaper back home wherever that is. I've heard that everyone in the Czech Republic can play an instrument. This might be an exaggeration.
In my opinion unless you've walked the Charles Bridge, viewed the Castle, and attended one of these wonderful theaters you just have not been to Prague.

Go on www.Praguepost.com and check the events link. They have a whole insert in their paper that lists cultural events & restaurant reviews, as well as other info. Have a great trip!

The Old Town Square has a huge Christmas Tree, lights, decorations and a crib. There was also a small ice-rink when we were there, as well as the Christmas market. Lots of the churches had cribs and Christmas trees and many had concerts - wrap up warm though, as they are not always heated well. The view of the castle from Charles Bridge, when lit up at night is magical. We even found pavement cafes and bars open in late December, heated by large patio heaters. Dress warmly, as it can be bitterly cold and I'm sure you'll love it.
