Christmas family vacation to France. Need advice
I am planning a family vacation for the last two weeks in December to France and am looking for some advice on travel arrangements and possible places to visit during this time of year.
Which ski-resorts would you recommend?
What is a must-see in Southern France?
If lodging in a monastery along the way, which monastery would you recommend?
What about Provence or Cote D'azur?
Since this is our first time in France, your input is greatly appreciated.

My impression is that Christmas is the wrong time to skiing in France because all the residents of the Paris area who can afford to go skiing will be hitting the slopes.
For a first time to France, and in the winter, I would consider renting an apartment in Paris for the duration, even if taking the TGV to Strasbourg and staying there a couple of days. You would also have day trips available to Chartres, Versailles, etc. Get a Michelin Green Guide for France and Paris and start making decisions from what looks interesting to you for the two weeks you plan to stay.

Upon reflection: Daylight hours are very short and normal tourist activities in the provinces often involve outdoor activities--wandering through villages, admiring the countryside. There would be no such thing as enjoying the lingering evenings of summer time. Big cities offer more indoor activities and an apartment offers a retreat with breathable space.

I would spend at least one week in Paris. I'm not sure about the skiing at Christmas but, as noted above, there is lots more to do in the cities in winter. Paris will be lovely at Christmas. If you want to ski, check ski resorts for availability the second week.
