Christmas Eve dinner in Seville

Hi, we arrive in Seville on Christmas Eve and we don't want to find that there's no-where to eat because it is a special meal for Spanish people. We just want to eat some decent tapas and have a bottle of wine and definitely do not want to pay an exorbitant amount just because of the occasion. We are staying relatively central and ask if anyone can recommend a place that is open, has tapas, has wine (and beer!), and is not taken over by those large Christmas parties.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Two very nice restaurants are San Marco and El Pinton. Give them a try.

Last year El Pintón was open for Christmas Eve lunch but not dinner, according to the list published by ABC Gurmé, but they may offer a special (and pricey) Christmas menu only.
Casa Robles emailed me to say that their BAR will be open Christmas Eve for a limited tapas menu.
The restaurant will serve a special Christmas menu. *Both are located in the heart of the Santa Cruz quarter.

Here's last year's list for Dec. 24 lunch, Dec. 24 dinner and Christmas Day. This year's hasn't yet been published. You'll need to scroll way, way down to "Abiertos el diá 24 por la noche".
https://sevilla.abc.es/gurme/reporta...-25-diciembre/

There are more tapas bars open for Christmas Eve lunch than for dinner (like Casa Robles, Las Teresas and Barbiana).

If you can make it for a late lunch by 4:30 on Dec. 24, there are 2 options in the bar-filled Arenal quarter near the bullring:
ORIO by Sagardi that serves Basque pintxos (tapas) and wines at the bar, at Calle Santo Tomás 9.
ORIO Basque restaurant in Sevilla

And Papirusa at Antonia Díaz 9.
Their restaurant will serve a special 42-euro menu but you may be able to have tapas in the bar section.
They'll also be open until 4:30 on Dec. 24, says The Fork.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Maribel - this list for Christmas lunch and Christmas Eve - is that the list of places that have big Christmas celebrations, what I want is places that are open where I can eat plain old tapas and not be charged a fortune for it, I don't want to take part in those huge banquets (like in Mexico)?

It depends on what time you´d like to have dinner. If it´s by US schedules, you´ll find places open almost anywhere at 7-8pm that will serve tapas and wine (not a proper dinner according to our standards, but it´s just perfect as that´s what you´re looking for), and lots of atmosphere on the street. Time for dinner will be around 1030pm in most restaurants, so the vast majority of places will close around 9pm to go home to help prepare dinner or to get ready to go out to dine and celebrate. By the way, we love to go out that day from 1pm until dinner time, so streets will be busy and with lots of people in the bars and streets.

Thanks mikelg, sounds festive!
Regarding Christmas day itself, will there be tapas bars open - for us travellers to eat?

There´ll be quite a few, as we like to go for some drinks before lunch (again, it´s around 3pm that day, and it´s big), but people will be around enjoying their wines and beers with friends and family before lunch. Expect a very, very busy atmosphere in the alleys of Seville...and all over Spain.

About the list above:
it's a mixture of both tapas bars that will be open for light fare and also restaurants, some that will only serve a set price Christmas menu in their dining rooms, while other restaurants also have front bars.
Unfortunately, there's no way to know what sit-down restaurants will serve only their special Christmas meal unless you go by, call or check online, if they have their special menus already on line (like the Casa Robles dining room, but bar will be serving tapas)

Some tapas bars open from that list that are central:
Casa Román and Las Teresas for fine Iberian ham, EntreCárceles, Barbiana for sherry and classic Andalusian tapas, Bodeguita Dos de Mayo, Gorki, Ovejas Negras, Sal Gorda, Mala Vida, Orio (for Basque pintxos)

Another tourist-centered option open Christmas Eve & Christmas Day (but maybe with truncated hours) is the giant "food hall", Mercado Lonja del Barranco, at the river's edge, in a glass and iron building designed by Eiffel.
It's handy for tourists because it usually keeps very long hours, has 20 different food stands for all tastes and a huge outdoor terrace. Prices are somewhat high by local standards, but these new former-food markets-turned-food courts (like Madrid's Mercado de San Miguel) have become very popular with tourists for the ability to dine outside the traditional Spanish meal hours.

As mikelg says on Christmas Day, before the locals' long lunch and into the evening, you should find plenty of bars open for drinks & tapas, especially in the Santa Cruz quarter (where many hotels are located), in the Arenal quarter near the bullring and also in the center around Las Setas (Plaza de la Encarnación).

I can second the restaurants Papirusa at Antonia Díaz 9, Orio, El Pintón. Many restaurants will be closed on Christmas Eve because of locals staying with their family. More will be open on Christmas Day. However, if you go to Barrio santa cruz area you will find several restaurants that are open on Christmas Eve too.

Another option is to go to El Giraldillo which has an annual Christmas Eve dinner - https://www.thefork.com/restaurant/el-giraldillo/11700
