Packing and moving is one of my least favorite activities;but it is the first step on a new adventure. Since I spent 6 weeks in S. of France, Portugal, Spain,Morocco, Gibralter and London; I wanted to go where it was warm...I live in FL so I like the warm weather. I am flying to Cuba for a 2 wk tour and I like it because I can take one type of clothing and its only an hour flight. I spent one Christmas in Paris and loved it...I had 40 at Thanksgiving and then cut my hand and had to get stitches so I am looking forward to the trip...I do miss those Christmas gatherings..my children are grown and traveling with their significant others..Have a safe and healthy Christmas and New Year and I am sure your holiday will be lovely.

This is just so enjoyable to read and to see where everyone is off to and what you plan to do!
Mina, this is just the begining of many New Years Eves kissing that Aussie, I'll betcha!
johanna, how awful that you had to get stitches! How cool to be going to Cuba!
I miss my children too, especially when one is in Japan and I have no idea when we will see him..it is good to keep busy at this time of year, it can be so easy to get melancholy.

I will be home alone for Christmas--my husband has not seen his mum for 5 years, so he is going home for Christmas as *my* present to the family. I'm staying here in Brussels with our spaniel. However, he arrives back in Europe on NYE, so the dog and I are taking an ICE train to meet him in Dusseldorf; we'll relax in the hotel and then have a NYE dinner in the old town section of Dusseldorf. It will be low key, but pleasant. We may have a NY's day brunch with relatives in the Essen area.

I will be spending it in a new home, but family is far away...But last night we trimmed our tree, made a fire in the fireplace and pulled the guest mattress out to the living room. We curled up with our cats and enjoyed the warmth of the fire and the lights on the tree. It's beginning to feel alot like Christmas.....

So as not to hijack this thread...we are headed to the mountains east of Seattle for a few days to a cabin. Just the 4 of us and the dog...will relax and ski. Definitely need it with doing a job hunt this time of year too!

That is ok, how nice to meet someone on this thread and find a place to live !

I finally felt a little Christmasy today, standing in line at the Post Office, mailing off packages to my son in Japan (we won't discuss how much that cost!) and hearing that although it is Dec 9th, it might be too late for anyone in Japan or Europe to get their First Class mail before Christmas!!
Oh well, we will hope for the best.
It also puts me in a Holiday mood to write out all my cards..do all of you send cards? Lots of cards or just family and close friends?
I love looking at my Christmas card list and seeing how many countries are represented ~

Thank you all for the good wishes, franchophile, I will have to celebrate a birthday in Provence I think, bring home some decorating ideas and maybe some Provencal treasures~

DH and I are flying to spend Christmas with my parents in Texas. Its much warmer there than here in Michigan, so we are looking forward to that. Our pup is spending Christmas with her 'grandparents' (DH's folks). We are sad to leave her, but at least its only for a few days!

Crazymina- good luck with that Aussie- remember to get that big kiss AT LEAST every hour- keep ringing in the new year with the different time zones!

Scarlett- I started to feel more Christmasy last night. I addressed a bunch of cards and wrapped gifts while watching 'Queer Eye'. My gift wrapping method is different- I wrap all the gifts at one time, and then do all the bows the next day.

Best of luck with your move!

Colleague and I are doing some research on James Joyce, so am spending New Year's Eve in London, New Years' Day+ in Dublin, and then heading through Paris, Zurich and Trieste. I find the anticipation unbearable.

sounds like lots of you have some really interesting things planned. especially you zeppo2.

I'm heading for prague and will be there through the new year. The anticipation is hard to bear at times, but w/ so much going on, it's hard to dwell.

It sounds like everyone is going to have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and Scarlett will also. Christmas is always here at home with our adult children. The house is getting decorated and the cookies baked. Most of gifts are bought. Of coarse, church on Christmas Eve, where we will belt out Christmas carols. New Years will be spent in VT with friends. Maybe we will ski. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. Enjoy and pray for peace around the world and a wonderful life to everyone, especially those without as much opportunity as those of us who frequent this board.
