Hi, J!

After reading your post on another thread, I turned it on and caught the last segment. Thanks for the rec!

Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Happy Christmas, Sheila and smalti! And to all a good night -- If I don't grab a nap, I'll never make it through midnight mass. J. aka 'the whimp.'

Anyone unfortunate enough to have missed it, or to live somewhere you can't get Radio 4 or the World Service on FM: it's available for the next week to download at bbc.co.uk/radio4/religion/pip/57z45

But, lovely as it is, it's from an institution that's been spectacularly privileged for nearly 600 years. And a city which, for nearly 300, has been among the richest in the world.

For a service a tad more aligned with the message of the bits of Luke we'll be listening to (or if you're jmwdd and most of our congregation, snoring through) later tonight, listen to a similar service from Cape Town at bbc.co.uk/radio3/choralevensong/?focuswin

And think how very easily the past 15 years in South Africa could have been so very different.

Have a very happy Christmas.

Thanks for telling us about the Lessons and Carols. I've never heard of it. If I weren't so tired, I'd try to find the South African mass.

Just got home from midnight mass. My son fell asleep on my lap while we were singing "Oh Du Frohliche..." The kids should be asleep soon and then it's time to play Christkindli....

Frohe Weihnachten!

Hi, I went to the choral evensong page, but didn't see anything listed from Cape Town for today's date. Any ideas? I have a feeling that my Media Player might not work anyway. J.

We've got 6 hours to go till midnight mass. Hopefully a little extra caffeine will help us stay awake.

Merry Christmas -- Happy Holidays to all!

I missed King's Choir Lessons and Carols on NPR but played their carols on a C.D. a couple of hours ago.

However, now it's that wonderful "Madame Butterfly" with Pavarotti and Freni. So beautiful it makes me sad. Maybe we should stop sniping at each other and listen to something beautiful instead.

We waited with anticipation for the opening notes of "Once in Royal David's City," and then came the spine-tingling treble solo from a boy with an exceptionally sweet voice. The whole service was beautiful, as always.

YES!!

Heard it in real time. 7'oclock in SoCal.

We have listened to it in other years and it never ceases to thrill.
