We are leaving Rome via train to Chiusi. We are going to pick up our car at the Avis rental office located in Chiusi Scalo @ Piazza Dante.
When purchasing my train tickets online I notice that the station name is Chiusi-Chianciano Terme. Is Chiusi-Chianciano Terme the same as Chiusi Scalo?
Obviously I want to make sure I am going to the right station.

It should be the Chiusi train station. Chianciano Terme is a spiffy thermal resort about ten miles away, but the train station is in Chiusi. Scalo must be a section of town, upper Chiusi, etc. But chiusi is small enough you won't have problems finding it. Chianciano is a fancy resort of manicured lawns, a zillion restaurants, hotels - worth a short stop on your way to Montepulciano!

Chiusi-Chianciano Terme and Chiusi Scalo, as designated on Trenitalia, are one and the same. "Scalo" means the place where the train stops.

Yes--the same--and the Avis office is 50 yards across the street.

And Chiusi is so small that you can't get lost in it. The cafe across the street from the train station (on the left) has good sandwiches if you're hungry.

While we were standing at the Chiusi train station for several hours in June during a "one day" unannounced train strike, waiting for train service to start so we could get to Milan and then Nice, we became VERY familiar with the area. Trust me, you can't miss the Avis station which is the first thing you see across the street if you exit the main entrance (well, only entrance) of the little station. We tried to rent a car there since we couldn't find out when or if the trains would run, but Avis had no cars available.
P.S. After about a four hour stoppage, the trains started running again.

The Avis store is right across the street from the train station, maybe offset by half a block.

Chiusi Scalo is the "suburb" of "downtown" Chiusi. The train station is located in Chiusi Scalo, which is about half a mile, maybe a mile, outside Old Town Chiusi.

Other than driving through it en route to Montepulciano, Pienza, or Montalcino, you are prohibited from visiting Chianciano Terme unless you are at least 70 years old. You laugh now, but wait until you get into Chianciano.

Ah yeh -- thus the allure of Chianciano Terme - hilltowns are like peas in a pod, Chianciano Termes are totally unique.

Apologizing in advance for hijacking the thread. I understand there's a supermarket in Chiusi. A Co-op maybe? Is the market within walking distance of the station and Avis?

Supermarkets are my specialty. Yes there is a large Coop super about a half mile from the station, to the west as I remember.

There is a supermarket in the mall which if I remember correctly is
just a bit past the on ramp for the autostrada on the left side of the road. Its not within walknig distance from the train or Avis

The Supermarket is a Suprecal and is excellent. It isn't within walking distance however. It is contained in a "Mall". I'm an addict of Truffle Salsa which is also available it the coop in Montelchino. Enjoy your trip Diane and do stop in Pienza.
