Cheese tasting in Paris?

Hello fellow foodies,

I love cheese, and I know more about cheese than the average person. I even used to work in a cheese shop.

As some of you know, there are many cheeses which are unable to be exported due to pasteurization rules.

I will be in Paris in two months; have been several times before. This trip will be very relaxing and I don't plan on doing much sight seeing. One thing I WOULD like to do is possibly take some kind of cheese tasting course; I'd love to learn more--and taste!--the cheeses which are unabtainable in the US. I would imagine some of the bigger fromageries would offer a cheese tasting event..

Anyone?

Ziggy, you could get into the swing of things before the trip by growing some mold on an old pair of ballet slippers and then harvesting it for a few taste sessions.

just got an email from
Harriet Welty Rochefort
author "French Toast" and "French Fried"
She does wine and cheese pairings, she could do a group on March 22nd, anyone interested in doing this?

I posted this on another thread, so if you want to do a cheese tasting on March 22nd she needs 6 people.pj

Androuët used to offer a cheese meal (six platters, each holding about a dozen cheeses, starting with the mildest). However, there are reports that it has gone downhill. There may be other cheese restaurants that offer such meals. I know of one in Strasbourg, if you happen to go there.

Or just go tasting at any of the wonderful fromageries in Paris. We stayed just downwind of Barthelemy at 51 rue de Grenelle a few years ago and sampled some wonderful things. Have a look at http://www.whitings-writings.com/ess...ur_fromage.htm for other suggestions.

Hi M,

As carlux suggests, go to a cheese shop.

Start at one end and work you way to the other.

NOTE: Do not do this every day. You will get sick.

Alternate days between cheese and foie gras.

Here's an option for a cheese and wine tasting lunch: www.o-chateau.com

I have a brochure, I haven't tried it. But the site is in a "real" part of Paris and the sommelier-"guide" is young and French.

hmm, young and french, maybe I'll come out of this with a husband!

Some interesting options, thank you so much for those who replied.
