Yes, I am taking my own cell phone to Scotland. Will an adapter work okay with no damage to my phone, or will I need a converter?

I don't really understand when you need a converter instead of the prong adapter.

Check the specs written on your charger. If they read 100-240V 50-60Hz, then you can use it with just an adapter plug. More importantly, your cellphone needs to have the 900/1800 GSM bands used in the UK.

OK, I can't remember the exect details of why this is the case, but I have (in the past) blown out a couple of my phone batteries by using a prong converter. Now I use separate chargers, one for Europe and another one for home.
CHeck this with a cell phone store person to see what the reason may be.

Again..it's very clear and very easy...almost all chargers in this day and age are dual voltage...

Look on the charger for where it says input...if it says input: 100-240 V, you're fine...all you need is a plug adapter...if it doesn't say that then you need a separate charger.

Will you have a car? I usually just pack my car charger so I don't have to worry about the prong stuff.

Also, some bathrooms have 120V shaver outlets where all you would need is a prong converter if you are worried about the 240V outlet.
