Charging a Cell Phone
Yes, I am taking my own cell phone to Scotland. Will an adapter work okay with no damage to my phone, or will I need a converter?
I don't really understand when you need a converter instead of the prong adapter. Thanks! |
Check the specs written on your charger. If they read 100-240V 50-60Hz, then you can use it with just an adapter plug. More importantly, your cellphone needs to have the 900/1800 GSM bands used in the UK.

OK, I can't remember the exect details of why this is the case, but I have (in the past) blown out a couple of my phone batteries by using a prong converter. Now I use separate chargers, one for Europe and another one for home.
CHeck this with a cell phone store person to see what the reason may be. |
Again..it's very clear and very easy...almost all chargers in this day and age are dual voltage...
Look on the charger for where it says input...if it says input: 100-240 V, you're fine...all you need is a plug adapter...if it doesn't say that then you need a separate charger. |
Will you have a car? I usually just pack my car charger so I don't have to worry about the prong stuff.

Also, some bathrooms have 120V shaver outlets where all you would need is a prong converter if you are worried about the 240V outlet.
