Glad you enjoyed Riquewihr. My good friends Martine and Jean-Paul own the apartments where you stayed. I saw the beginning of all their apartments years ago, and then last year spent several days with them where we 3 stayed in their Alsatian Hart, large apartment and we did a lot of sightseeing in Black Forest etc..Jean-Paul likes to show off the whole area. They live a bit away from the area. We had a good time together, as always. We spent an evening together in Paris..Violon d'Ingres for dinner. Always a favorite, for me.
They visited me in North Carolina several years ago.
Just had a note from Jean-Paul to come visit again , if time as I am now in Paris for 2 months. Will see!!
Know most of your Paris restaurants as I stay in the same area, always. Discovered Casse Noix several years ago.

I meant to add re the fire. It really was not that destructive, as it was confined to just one building. I was there not too long after and my friends showed me all. It could have been very bad!!
Some good dining in the village. We dined in 2 of the best restaurants....

I missed this TR when it was first posted. Sounds like it was a wonderful gourmet trip.
I am very fond of Alsace and Strasbourg is my favourite city in France. My very first time in Riquewihr, nearly 45 years ago, was at the height of the wine harvest and the smells of the fermenting grapes as we wandered through the village remain vivid in my memory today. The autumn is a beautiful season in Alsace, but then there is something to be said for visiting at any time of year.
Next time you are in Alsace, do plan to spend time in Strasbourg and don't miss dining at L'Auberge de l'll in Illhaeusern, very close to Riquewihr. It is a superb restaurant and the meals I have enjoyed there are unforgettable.

Good to hear from you, I was just thinking of you and wondering if you were enjoying your stay in Paris. We won't be back till September. I'm planning 10 days with my mother and two sisters with a week in Paris (7th) and 4 days in Provence, then 10 days with my husband in Bordeaux, Dordogne and Paris (2nd).
Please tell Jean-Paul how much we enjoyed staying in their beautiful apartment in Riquewihr. It couldn't have been more perfect.

Enjoying my stay in Paris. Has been a whirlwind since my arrival with so much during the holidays.
We will be dining at Violon d'Ingres tomorrow evening (NY's Day)for a Special menu which I know will be special in every way. A very favorite spot of mine.
I do have a number of new ones on my list to give a try along with so many favorites....
I have spent a lot of time in Provence...both east and west...

chutney, I was so excited to come across you wonderful trip report and to hear so much positive on your Riquewihr rental and visit. We have rented the 'Dove's Nest' for 8 nights at the end of September 2015. Several years ago we waited too late to rent one of their beautiful apartments so we left nothing to chance and booked this past November 
. Thanks for sharing so much info. Nice to see that several other posters are familiar with the Riquewihr rentals.

Glad you booked. You won't regret it. I loved the town itself, but is also an easy drive to other villages. It was such a treat to enjoy Riquewihr early in the morning and in the evening when it's not crowded.
Should be beautiful in late September.

chutney, we have visited Riquewihr 2 or three times but only for a short day visit so we're very excited to actually stay there. We will have a car and there are so many options of places to visit nearby. We will be with another couple who have not been to this area so it'll be fun to explore. Oh and I can't wait to have the coconut macaroons!

So sorry the 'nut job' horned in on your earlier emails, looks like he's gone now. You mentioned another site that you're posting, if you'd like to share it with me I too would love to travel along with you. Paris is my passion tho I'm not a foodie, I find the city breathtaking and have been there 3 times this year alone, not counting my one night CDG stopover.
