I'm with you on the caramels. They were good but I was a bit disappointed. He is famed as the creator of salted caramel, so wanted to give them a try. I've never tried Jacques Genin's. It's now on my list for our trip in September.
I'm still trying to figure out how to attach photos on my ipad. Guess I'll have to use the home computer .

I was at a grand Normandy chateau party last year with around 100 people from around the world dancing until 4am in the morning. At the off-beat breakfast a few of the more fey people were noising off about how great the Normany butter was etc etc.
I didn't have the heart to tell them it was English butter from the Coop (a cheap cooperative supermarket)

Yes, we asked them to vacuum seal it. I then put it in a zip lock bag for extra protection. We put it in our suitcase and it was fine, but it was December.
Maybe someone else has experience with bringing it back at warmer times of the year. I wonder if you froze it before flying.

You have all pretty familiar to me. I have been stahying in Paris Perfect apartments for years. Once staying in one. you are spoiled for others, or so I found.
The whole area is pretty familiar to me and I know so many..The Constants have become nice friends.
I have been to many 3 stars over the yeaars. It is fun to take someone for their first time. I more enjoy now finding great new ones..like Bistrot Belhara, where we have had some great meals and great times...the cute little Aux Cerises on Suffren...I also liked l'Auberge des Sauvers on Surcouf an more and more....
You mention Riquewihr. Jean-Paul and Martine are good friends. I am in Paris now, for 2 months, and Martine is in Paris this weekend for something that she wanted to attend. I am leaving with her tomorrow and will spend a few days with them. I saw the very first place they were starting with..a goat stall! They have come to Paris many times when I have been her and they were houseguests of mine in Asheville. A fun couple. I am anxious to see the many places that they have now. We will have a great time.
a bientot..

chutney, well it is going to be 110 de Taillevent since I showed my formerly-a-sommelier DH the menu with the wines. The only caveat is that he can't order a glass of wine which costs more than the dish it is to accompany.
Also when you said that you got the butter at the covered market was that Marche St Germain? We will be staying nearby so it would be convenient.

LOL!! You will really enjoy it. You obviously know more about wine than we do! They were great about recommending their choice for each dish. It was fun looking across the huge menu at the choices. It was a great way to end a wonderful trip.
I'm working on a Picassa slide show. Will post soon.
Gracejoan:
Please tell your friends how much we enjoyed their apartment.
Also, I had tried to book at Bistro Belhara, but due to the holiday period of time they weren't open when we wanted to go. Hopefully next trip.

I finally put together a Picasa slideshow. I took all of these pictures with my iPhone, so not the best possible.

I forgot to ask about the fire. Evidently not a problem for them. Martine and Jean-Paul, and puppy, are staying with me in the lovely Alsatian Hart. They gave me a choice here in the new complex, where we could all be together.
We went out to dinner almost around the corner d'Brendle Stub last evening. I did take pics. Will post.
We are off to the the Black Forest today. JP does like to go, go, go and show me places.
Lovely, lovely.....

So much to enjoy in this food driven report! Will be in Paris for a month in May/june. I was excited to see the photos of Reims as we hope to go. And I was considering a Paris by Mouth tour but now i'm convinced. Thank you for vivid descriptions and prices of each meal. Appreciate it! Mary

My pleasure. I should have taken better notes as we went along. I get caught up in the moment and find it difficult to keep copious notes. Hope it was still helpful. We are back in September and hope to give a more detailed report.
Where will you be staying?

Taking better notes turns your vacation into a chore! You've gone beyond as is!
We have rented an apt in the 14th near the Catacombs. My daughter stayed in the 14th last summer and had good things to say about it. Quick hop to central area on the metro.
