champagne bar in paris

stumbled across this site, all sorts of "urban" travel info., and specifically info on various champagne bars in paris:

http://gridskipper.com/travel/paris/...ars-288583.php

has anyone been to the sofitel trocadero's champagne bar? i can't seem to find reviews or prices. can anyone chime in on how much an hour or two will set 2 people back (by the glass- flights, etc., not purchasing bottles)?

thank you!

Funny to see an article about that, because I translated the real estate brochure for that hotel from English to French when it was for sale a few years ago, and the champagne bar sounded interesting. However, I have no idea if anything that I translated was actually true.

We've been there a couple of times. It's elegant and intimate, with a fireplace (if you're going in winter). They usually have several different champagnes available by the glass, but figure on roughly $10 and up for a glass. With the emphasis on "and up."

In our opinion, it's not a casual place. When we've been there, people tend to be fairly dressy as they're usually having a glass or two before heading off somewhere...dinner at an elegant restaurant, the theatre, private clubs, etc.

The hotel is located in a handsome residential neighborhood and a short walk from the Trocadero for gorgeous views of the Eiffel Tower.

Don't forget that if you're traveling in December, you can sample a variety of champagnes (usually for free) in the basement wine bar at Fauchon's. A different champagne each day...tastings are sponsored by the various champagne houses. Pours can be quite generous.

I appreciate the information. I want to do something special for my birthday while in Paris. Sipping champagne in front of a fire in a posh place will do just fine for a start.

I will also visit Fauchon's to taste. Something fun for a day in December.

I love Fodor's. Just when I have an anxiety attack about the changes in my life I pull up Fodor's and see something new to experience. My anxiety is replaced with anticipation and excitement.

Thanks to you all.

Additional info is available from the hotel's web site:
http://www.sofitel.com/sofitel/fiche...staurant.shtml

If you know in advance the specific date you plan to be there, email the hotel and ask them which champagnes/sparkling wines are available by the glass. The list changes from time to time, so it doesn't hurt to ask.
