Is it possible to travel directly by train from CK to Dresden? Must we go back to Prague before Dresden? Thanks so much for any info. Tracy

i do not believe that it is possible...also you cannot travel directly from ck to prague....i think you have to make changes...most people feel it is easier to go by bus, i believe....i have only driven it...prague is about 1/2 way between the two....all three places are fantastic....a good hotel in CK is: hotel dum U Vaclava (www.uvaclava.cz)--huge rooms, fantastic breakfast, great service---in the middle of the town...

in dresden a great pension directly on the tram line is: Pension am Grossen Garten on Beilstr.--70 E/double in 2003.

i dont know if it's possible, but if i were you i'd also check out the bus schedual. they're faster, cheaper, and safer. the bus company in this part of europe is eurostar. i'm sure there's a website, but it's prob in czech....

Sorry, but I disagree that the bus is "safer" than taking the train...why would that be the case? BUT, you would be better off taking a bus in terms of timings and ease.

I used the German rail site http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e for Cesky Krumlov to Dresden, and found these. I then corrected, using the Thomas Cook European Timetable, which may be in the reference library of a city near you. I greatly doubt that busses will take less time than these seven hour journeys chiefly by train, and am sure that busses offer less seat space and no catering.

I don't quite understand Ben's notations regarding time, but I think busses do take less time than trains for that route. They are more direct, for one thing, those itineraries require a lot of transfers. It appears from those schedules that getting from Cesky Krumlov to Prague takes about 5 hrs by train (it appears, I think the train from PRague to Dresden is then about 2-1/2 hrs). Also, it involves a bus from CK to C Bud., which is the problem.

There are buse from Cesky Krumlov to Prague that take only about 3 hrs or a bit more. So, I think that would be quicker. For example, there is one
There is def. no train directly from CK to Dresden. I think these may be the same bus that you have to take to C Bud in the prior lists, but then the bus goes to Prague (at least the times are the same).

One bus leaves at 9:15 am and gets into Prague at noon. This may be the same train trip on Ben's schedule that starts with a bus at 9:15 am, then transfers to train, and arrives in Prague at 12:54? Another bus is from 11:15 am to 14:20 pm arrival, and another at 12:15 to 15:30 pm arrival.

NOne of these fares are high, so I don't think that matters so much. Busses are a popular method of transport in the Czech Republic and they have good roads down to Cesky Krumlov.

well, maybe not safer when going to dresden cause it's so close, but going on overnight trains around eastern europe I've run into problems myself. in this case the train should be fine, although will most likely take you longer
