Cesky Krumlov - is a day trip enough?

Hi I will be in Prague for about a week in June next year and would like to visit Cesky Krumlov... as well as doing some other day trips. Is a day trip to Cesky Krumlov sufficient?

Since it takes about 4 hours each way, I think it works better to spend one night there. You also would have the advantage of seeing the place AFTER the tour busses take many of the people back to Prague!

We planned an 'over-nighter' there our first trip. We postponed our trip to Vienna & ended up staying 3 days. If you have time for a 'break' in your trip. This is an excellent, inexpensive place to take it. I would at least stay over night. From Prague, once you get to Ceske Budovice (if you are using the train). Get off there & take a taxi. The trains from there are all crowded commuter trains that will stop about 20 times. In addition, the train station is a bit of a walk from the main town. Just have the taxi drop you off in the square, the tourist office is right there, & can give you any help you may require.

I personally think that a day trip is enough. We spent a better part of a day there in May and had a great time. We saw all the sights we wanted to see and had time to just stroll through the town and take everything in. Its a great place to visit and I highly recommend it.

However, with the long drive from Prague, I wouldn't recommend it as just a daytrip. We daytripped from Salzburg and it took much longer to get to than we thought, and although we had a great time the three plus hours it took to get there made it a very long day.

Hello,
We went the end of Nov, and spent 1 night there. In the winter time, it gets pretty quiet at night. That being said, a day trip was enough. I am not sure what is going on in the summer-if there are things taking place in evening. If so, perhaps add a night. Have fun.

If you are into rafting/canoeing, that is particularly big there in the summer months as the river pretty much encircles the city. There are several 'chutes' that the rafters have to negotiate w/the help of a 'river policeman' who literally stands in the middle of the river & directs traffic. Many of the them swamp it going through the chutes. It is quite an enjoyable spectator sport.

Thank you for your help, and after looking more closely at the day tour I was thinking about, I think they end up in Cesky Krumlov for about 1 hour all up!! Has anyone any recommendations re where to stay?

We stayed here. Good location and the rate is very reasonable.
