Cesky Krumlov, Hotel Ruze?

Greetings fellow travellers,
I am going to visit Cesky Krumlov early this april. Is there anyone amongst you who have stayed in the Ruze(Rose) Hotel. Do you suggest it?

I too have heard good things about this place and some even say it is a bit pricey. We unfortunately could not get a room when we are there in August. They did send us a very nice brochure though.

John,

On our first trip to Cesky Krumlov we stayed at the Hotel Ruze. (This was before its recent total restoration following a lengthy closure.)

We enjoyed the hotel very much. The common rooms were lovely, the restaurant had excellent food and service, and the views from the outdoor dining terrace are memorable.

Prior to the restoration, some of the bedrooms were very small ---ours was quite tiny (monk-sized) and the bathroom had the style of shower that sprayed all over the room (no shower stall).

Two years ago ( while on a second trip), we noticed that the hotel was closed and areas were being gutted. They even had all the massive wood interior doors on the street ---stripping and restaining them. It looked like no expense was being spared to further spruce up the hotel.

I'm sure the current pricing is indicative of those recent expenditures.

If the price is within your budget, it would be worth the money---just make certain of the "size" of the room. Those that look out the back side of the hotel, overlooking the river, are the more expensive rooms---and probably the more spacious.

Although Cesky Krumlov is small, I still like the location of the Ruze (and all the other pension on that street.) The street is "one way" into the medevial town square---there is a lot of foot and car traffic making it a "safer" area to park your rental (if you have one.) The hotel has private parking for a limited number of cars, directly across from the hotel entrance.

You would also be pleased with the pension in that general area
John, If you can't get in there then try Hotel Zlatky Angel (Golden Angel) which is right next to Ruze. I stayed there last year in a new section for about $38/night for a single room. Oddly enough the room was very scandinavian looking. Nice hotel, great location.

Thank you everybody,
Well the Hotel in question had just sent me a conformation e-mail. Even though it's really pricy we are going to stay in Cesky Krumlov only for one night, so the price doesn't make that much of a difference. I'll let you all know how it was when i'll come back on april 6
