That sounds about right. The staff meets the folks attending at about 9:30PM. Gives background information and a bit of a tour as he brings you to the location where you will watch.

He then explains the history and what will take place. As they pass your position, the crowd follows a short distance for the conclusion. It is over just after 10PM.

Keith

The core ceremony part is indeed about 10 minutes. But you will be inside the Tower longer than that. Here is a description of what takes place:

http://londonvicaragehotel.com/pages/ceremony.html

Yeah, about talking. There were about 5 loud 50ish American women in our group. They continued to talk and giggle loudly while the Beefeater explained the ceremony. The Beefeater did not talk loudly so it was very difficult to understand him with these annoying women talking at the same time.

The actual "Ceremony" take about 10 minutes but the preliminaries which are integral to it take about 20 minutes so you are inside a little over 30 minutes.

I have attended 5 or 6 times and still find it awe inspiring.

Once I had an even worse experience than Greg's. The Yeoman Warder (Beefeater) was winding up his explanation - it was dark, and quiet and everyone was expectant - the Beefeater asked were there any last questions -- and a loud mouth American in the back yelled out (literally yelled) "Do you know the score of the Eagles game?"

WHAT a jerk! The Beefeater cut him down so quietly and with such, I am sure he still doesn't know what hit him
