central tuscany location

I would appreciate any thoughts on an itinerary I am planning. I was thinking of staying in Tuscany and doing day trips to Cinq Terre and Florence rather than getting hotels in each location. Is that a good idea and is there any Tuscany location which we should consider? Thankyou Jim

Hi S,

Don't wish to be nitpicking, but Florence is the capital of Tuscany.

We would like to stay in a small town in Tuscany as our base if the distances make sense. Thanks Jim

I suggest you stay in Florence and I believe it's possible for you to visit Cinque Terre and other places from there. Florence is more or less the most central city in Tuscany.

Will you have a car?
The logical location for those 3 destinations is Lucca. However, the best of Tuscan hill towns is not convenient from there--life is a compromise !

I suggest splitting your stay into the two locations - Cinque Terre and Tuscany. The daytrip idea is simply not practical IMO. For Tuscany, try to find a location in or near Siena for the daytrips there...

Hi S,

Re: CT from Tuscany.

It is about 2:30 hr from Siena to La Spezia, from where you can get the train to the CT towns.

Get up early, come back late.

If you enter <(X) and Tuscany> in the "search this forum" box you will got lots of places to stay.

X = Villa or B&B or hotel or town

Have a nice visit.
