Catacombs in Rome

Need feedback on what to expect . I heard to dress warm that it's very cold. We are taking a Momograms trip and this excursion is extra. My husband and I are interested in seeing it. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

Don't recall being very cold in summer at least refreshing. What to expect? Lots of skulls and bones, many fashioned into 'decorative' walls:

Will be going late Sept so not sure if that makes a difference. How long is the tour?

Ours was about an hour - have to be guided thru of course but Google the catacomb's official site and see.

The 'best' catacombs are along the old Appian Way - forget which one we went to but any of those would be sweet. Short metro ride from Rome and you also see the ancient Appian Way remains. Can get crowded in summer suppose now you can book a time slot.

It can be chilly in the catacombs in the summer, but I've never needed more than a lightweight cardigan. In the winter, it can feel too warm in the catacombs if you're dressed for cold weather.

In my opinion, the best catacombs are not on the Appian Way, but north of the center. The Priscilla catacomb and the St. Agnes catacomb are my favorites, and they're nowhere near the Appian way. I've been to all five of the catacombs with regularly scheduled opening hours, and to three of them multiple times.

However, this sounds as though you won't have a choice of which catacomb to visit if it's an optional tour add-on.
