Castle for a night

I need a recommendation or a website or something. Last year we had a wonderful stay in a castle near Caen. Listings are available thru Bienvenue au Chateaux. but they only cover Western France.

For our upcoming trip, we have to cross France [from Normandy to Alsace-Lorraine]. I want to break that drive up and stay in a chateaux or another castle.

Any help (References or websites) would be appreciated. Thanks

What's your budget? If you're loooking to splurge for a night, try the 15th century Chateau D'Esclimont, in the village of St. Symphorien, near Chartres, about 30 miles + or - south/southwest of Paris. It's referenced in the GoFrance website, also in Fodor's, at www.grandes-etapes-francaises.com and on Trip Advisor site. We stayed there for a "last night in France" occasion a few years ago. It was at one time a Relais & Chateaux property but I don't see it in recent listings. Nevertheless, it's quite the place. It's probably less than halfway between the end points of your journey and a little out of the way, but worth the time and expense. You could do a lot worse.

Here are a couple of reputable web sites.

http://www.chateauxhotels.com/
http://www.relaischateaux.fr/site/us/
http://www.karenbrown.com/

Also type "Chateau" into the search window of http://www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/ and you'll find a few chateaux.

That should get you started. Have a good trip.

Budget hopefully would be about the same as our stay near Caen. One night, two adults and one child for $130 total.

Yeah I'm an optimist.

Thanks
